Troubleshooting
Most issues can be resolved in just a few minutes. Start by finding the symptom that best matches your problem, then follow the suggested checks.
Wallet not verifying
Possible causes: wrong wallet, wrong chain, or a compatibility issue with one specific verification method.
How to fix it:
- Make sure you're using the wallet that actually holds the required assets.
- Make sure you're verifying on the correct blockchain.
- If one verification method fails, try the other.
You can retry verification as many times as needed.
Warning
Some wallet applications currently provide a smoother experience with "Verify without connecting" than with WalletConnect. If one method doesn't work with your wallet, simply use the other - both verify ownership securely.
Role not assigned
Possible causes:
- OtterFi's bot role needs to sit above the role it's trying to grant, in your server's role list.
- The bot is missing the Manage Roles permission - see Administration.
- The member may not actually satisfy the current Access Policy - many admins assume it's a permissions issue when it's actually a policy mismatch.
Bot cannot access a channel
How to fix it: Confirm the bot can actually see the channel (View Channels) and, for Notify, that it can post and embed there (Send Messages, Embed Links, Attach Files).
If the bot was added before the channel became private, it may still need to be explicitly granted access - a very common Discord issue.
Notifications not arriving
Checklist:
Dashboard not updating
The pinned dashboard refreshes roughly once an hour by design - it's not meant to update on every single event. If the pinned message itself was deleted or unpinned, run /pin again to recreate it.
The dashboard is designed as a periodic summary rather than a live event feed.
Permission issues
See Administration for the complete list of required permissions for both Verify and Notify.
Common mistakes
- Verifying with the wrong wallet.
- Expecting Live Membership to be enabled automatically - it's opt-in per community.
- Forgetting to publish the Verify portal.
- Forgetting to complete Notify setup by starting the bot (Telegram).
- Expecting the pinned dashboard to update instantly.
- Adding the bot to two channels that both try to run separate setups for the same server - OtterFi will flag this rather than silently pick one.
- Assuming a paused community keeps checking access in the background - it doesn't, until resumed.
